Spending money I don't really have...

Thu Feb 12, 2009, 12:59 PM
I just found out that I need to buy a new computer. My six-year old laptop is finally starting to go senile on me. I've been having a lot of problems with it for the last few months and now the keyboard needs replacing. Apparently, my F1 key is stuck depressed and it continually keeps opening up Windows help and support pages and not letting me close them. It uses up all of my CPU to run these things and so I can't do anything else on it. I'm somewhat mad because I called a computer support company and they at first thought that it was a virus. They recommended that I wipe the entire system clean to get rid of it. So, I lost all of my stuff because I was dumb and only had a small amount actually backed up and the computer did work for a little while. Then, about two days ago, it started doing the same thing again and when I called the company a second time they figured that it was the keyboard. I decided that I might as well just replace the whole computer and get something a little more up to date. The only thing is, the new laptop will cost (after tax, shipping and handling, and warranty costs) almost $1600! It definately hurts (that's two months of rent). At least a large chunk of it will be covered by my tax return. Anyway, I'm at the library typing this because I won't have a computer or internet until mid-next week at the earliest. I'm already going into withdrawals. Luckily, I will be going on a four day fishing trip either tomorrow or Saturday and therefore I won't have to worry about missing the computer. It's going to be a trying time.

I just finished Confessor and I was all holy crap this has been the best series I have ever read or will read. Thousands of pages of material read in the span of four months, my new record. I was having a heart attack when Kahlan said, "I love you." before Richard could do what he had to.

Ah, so was the ending satisfactory for you? I did like how he brought things around full circle with the Boxes of Orden. I had totally forgotten about them until the last three books.

"I wished we lived in another age. I wish there were Elves and Druids again. And heroes. I wish there could be heroes again-- even one."
:D I was EXTREMELY pleased with the ending, but I wish it wasn't the end you know? I was reading the last chapter and I was all, "Yay, happy ending!" and then it's like, "Oh the ENDING." :( I've been reading this series for soo long now that it's like there is a... void where the anticipation for the rest of the story and where it would go.

I felt bad about Ann, happy that Jagang got what he deserved, and that everything worked out with Richard and Kahlan, Jennsen and Tom, and Cara and Benjimen(sp?).

I had forgotten about Ann's death. I was sort of sad when Johnrock died as well.

There is a short story prequel entitled "Debt of Bones" that details Zedd fighting Panis and Darken Rahl and setting up the boundaries originally. But after that, finis.

Zapp Brannigan: How many men did we lose?
Kiff: All of them, sir.
Zapp: Well, at least they won't have to mourn each other.
Yeah I felt bad about Johnrock too, and I was surprised that Bruce joined Richard when given the choice.

I'm glad that he finally brought the Mud People and one of the dragons back. I was unexplainably happy when I found out Scarlet was alive. (this is what I complained about a month ago.)

No problem. Winter's here and all the green things are gone so it's a nice reminder.
